Digital Signage trends in 2022 and in the following years

19.04.2022

“Sustainability” and “digital transformation” are the 2 key elements that will shape the global scenario of the Digital Signage sector. To tell the truth they are not a real novelty, but the weight they will take on starting from 2022 will be such as to make them become essential points of reference in the development and marketing of the LED screens of the future.

The commitment of the main industrialized countries to reduce harmful emissions in an attempt to slow down the effects of global warming inevitably also involves manufacturing companies operating in the Digital Signage industry: only an agreed action involving the most important industrial sectors worldwide can be said to be truly effective.

Specifically, the large LED screen manufacturers are mainly intervening on two fronts: that of reducing the electricity consumption of LED displays and that of replacing non-recyclable polystyrene packaging with eco-friendly materials.

LED screens must now comply with the regulations on electronic products (ERP) concerning energy consumption and power supply. It is also essential to raise awareness among users of these products in order to reduce the amount of electricity consumed as much as possible. The adoption of sensors that detect the intensity of the ambient light in which LED screens or other displays operate will ensure that unnecessary energy is not wasted to provide unnecessary brightness levels at night or in low ambient light conditions such as in a cloudy day. Other sensors, called proximity sensors, will ensure that certain contents will be displayed on the LED screen only when necessary, that is, when the message recipients pass by or in the presence of the recipients, allowing significant savings in terms of electricity consumption.

The difficulty of disposal for polystyrene is instead at the basis of the change underway for some years to replace it with recyclable and less polluting materials for the environment. Thanks to the push coming from both final consumers and retailers, manufacturers operating in the Digital Signage industry are increasingly using cardboard instead of polystyrene for the packaging of their products, allowing an ecological change, as a material that is more easily recyclable than plastic.

The second key element that marks an important turning point in the Digital Signage industry is the digital transformation which, due to Covid, has undergone a notable acceleration especially in the retail sector. Consumer safety within a store has become a top priority: while in the pre-Covid era, store customers preferred the ease and convenience of the purchasing process, today safety has become the essential requirement for allow consumers to go to a store and buy the products they are looking for without anxiety. The Digital Signage sector fully satisfies the need on the part of store managers to remember the measures in force in that precise time and in a specific country, organizing the flows of people and regulating the number of incoming and outgoing customers through LED displays in the shop windows or installed inside. In this way, even those who are preparing to make purchases will feel more relaxed seeing the security measures in force guaranteed.

Showing content related to specific products when a potential customer approaches them means personalizing the in-store shopping experience: an experimental and interactive retail sale entails a considerable competitive advantage for the retail sector. Those who know how to invest in LED screens or other Digital Signage devices managed with adequate software will be able to position themselves at the forefront to respond to the new needs of a market that has profoundly changed compared to a few years ago and is constantly evolving, obtaining an important advantage.
